Meet Lily Morgan

Lily Morgan is the main character and narrator of I’m Only Me.

*I made character interviews about 2 years ago, but since then, I feel like I know my characters even better. I thought I’d give this an update. This is how Lily would answer these questions before chapter 1.

New Version: 5/30/19

1. What is your age?

26

2. Do you have any siblings?

I’m an only child, but Anna and Hunter are pretty much my sisters.

3. Are your parents alive? Are they married? Are they divorced?

My parents are still together after twenty-some years. They live in Easton, which is about six hours away.

4. If you were sent to a deserted island what three things would you take?

Let me think…nothing alive, I assume? 1) iPod loaded with all my favorite songs. 2) Power generator to keep it charged. 3) A notebook. Then again, if I had my laptop, I could combine 1 and 3. I’m not sure now. Can I come back to this one?

5. Do you have a hidden talent?

Unless you count automatically assuming the worst in most situations, then no.

6. Do you have a habit you wish you could break?

I have a bad habit of putting myself down. I’m my own worst enemy for sure.

7. What features do you like the most about yourself?

I like my organization, creativity, and sense of humor.

8. What feature do you dislike the most about yourself?

I tend to obsess over things. I can be a one-track-minded, and I’m always called out for it.

9. Do you have a hobby?

I love helping new teachers because I know how stressed I was when I first started. I looked to other teachers for help, so if I can be that person for someone else, that’s awesome. That counts as a hobby, right?

10. Do you have a guilty pleasure?

Romantic comedies are my absolute favorite. I don’t consider this a guilty pleasure though. Maybe the guilty part is how much I’d love to be IN one.

11. What kind of music do you like?

My favorite is classic rock. I love the Beatles the most.

12. What is your biggest pet peeve?

I hate it when I make a plan, and then life happens. I mean, really? I’m exaggerating, but at the same time, I’m not. I hate when things don’t go according to plan. I like to know what’s coming. I’m not very spontaneous.

13. What is your favorite food?

Chocolate and Chinese food. But not together.

14. Do you have a passion and if so what?

Teaching is my passion. It always has been.

15. Do you consider yourself and introvert or extrovert?

I’m definitely an introvert. I don’t like to be the center of attention. I’m not too social outside of my friend group.

16. What is your idea of a perfect day?

First, I get to sleep in. My coffee is the perfect temperature. I do at least one thing to help at least one person–most likely through my online teaching community. I get to see Anna and Hunter. I’d eat all my favorite foods and hear all my favorite songs. And my bed would somehow feel more comfortable at the end of the day. Yep, that sounds nice.

17. Who is your favorite author?

Hmm, well, Catcher in the Rye is my favorite book, but I can’t say Salinger is my favorite author since I’ve never actually read anything else he wrote. I know, right? So I have to go with Poe. What else do you expect from an English teacher?

18. What would the first thing be on your bucket list?

I’d like to travel…somewhere. I’ve never been out of the country.

19. If I asked you to write an entry in your journal (Lauren’s Note: I’m changing this to “blog post”.) what would it be about?

It would probably be something teaching related, like how to teach direct objects. Riveting. 🙂

20. Tell me something no one else knows about you?

Anna and Hunter probably know this, but I’m afraid of love. I broke up with my last-and only–boyfriend four years ago, and I haven’t had a relationship since. It’s just that…I tend to give my whole heart to someone–intentionally or not–and that’s a scary thing, to put your happiness in the hands of someone else. So I’ve avoided it entirely. But in truth, I’d like to have that special someone in my life. I think I’m ready.

Old version:

What do you look like?
Uh, well. I have brown hair and green eyes. I could probably lose ten pounds and not miss it. Next question, please.
What do you like to wear?
I always go for comfort. I live in jeans and sweaters or t-shirts. I love my sneakers and very rarely wear heals. They aren’t worth the pain. I go for greens and blues mostly.
How do you like to socialize?
Well, I don’t unless it’s absolutely necessary. I’m not exactly extroverted. I’m so awkward around new people.

What was your first best friend like?
Anna was my first real friend I’d say. She was my rock and has been ever since. We met in second grade. I wish I could be more like her and say what’s on my mind. We’ve had some spats over the years, but we always find a way back together.

What ‘group’ were you in during your high school years?
Anna, Hunter, and I were in our own group, I guess.
What did you want to be when you grew up–and what did you end up becoming?
I’ve always wanted to be a teacher and I was one, but now I’m trying to figure out what I want to be. It’s tough. And a really long story.
What are your hobbies?
Well, I like to listen to music. I love a good romantic comedy. I’m trying to write a book actually. Tyler is helping me. That’s my neighbor. Well, we’re sorta involved. That’s a really long story too.
What music do you listen to?
I mostly listen to classic rock. The Beatles are my favorite. What annoys you?

Middle schoolers! But lately, it’s not knowing where I stand with Tyler. I get annoyed when he won’t acknowledge whatever’s happening between us.
What makes you laugh?
My friends. Tyler. I hate to say it, but Mark Peterson is funnier than I would’ve thought. Don’t tell him I said that. The last thing he needs is a compliment. Especially from me.
Are you a dog or a cat person?
I love cats so much! I have two: Atticus and Groucho. They’re my loves. I rescued them from the shelter a few years ago.
What season do you enjoy most?
Fall. It’s the most beautiful time of year. I love pumpkins and scarecrows. And of course the annual Fall Farmer’s Festival. Tyler’s going with me this year.
Do you drink alcohol?
Not really. Not unless I’m with someone else who is. I don’t seek it out or anything. I embarrass myself enough when I’m sober!
What trait do you find most admirable in others?
I admire a solid sense of self. People who really know who they are. It’s something I struggle with, but I’m working on it.
What scares you?
The unknown. Wondering if I’m doing the right thing. Losing the people I love.
What are your long term goals?
I’d like to figure out some new career goals. And put a label on whatever Tyler and I are. Maybe get him to stay in town.
What are your bad habits?
Let’s see. I have horrible self-esteem. Is that a habit? I guess the habit is putting myself down. My friends would say I obsess over things with little reason to.
If you could have lived in another decade which would it have been?
Hmm. Probably the 90s when I was a kid. I loved my childhood. Things were so simple back then!
What do you think happens after we die?
We go to heaven and are reunited with all those we’ve lost.
If you were to come into money what would you do with it?
I’d pay some bills. How exciting, right?
Who was the love of your life?
I don’t have much experience in the love department, but I’d have to say Tyler is. I’ve never felt this way before.

  1. I love how Tyler is all I’d save it or buy stuff I’ve always wanted and Lily is all, I’d make sure I have lights and gas, and my car doesn’t get repo’d. Lol. High fives for Lily. I’m sure saying all of this out loud was not in her plans.
