Not my usual WIP…
When I bought my house, there was one room with wallpaper. Luckily, it wasn’t a hideous pattern, but this room definitely has the most stuff on the walls than any other to cover the wallpaper. So this hunk of wall, about three feet wide, was the perfect spot to start this collage. With a little help from scissors and tape, I started in the middle and worked my way out. My goal is to cover it from top to bottom. I’ll post pictures of my progress, so you can feel the motivation on your side of the screen. That works, right?
I absolutely love motivational/inspirational quotes. I have several in various places in my house. Call me crazy, but I like visual reminders that it’s all right. Unfortunately, my word wall isn’t in the room where I write, but it’s on the wall opposite my treadmill. It serves me better there anyway.
Where did I get these quotes? For the second year in a row, I bought the “Today is Going to be a Great Day” desk calendar. Every day has a different quote with an artsy look to it. All of last year, I kept the quotes that I liked (some were just too lame to save), knowing that I wanted to do something with them. And I’ve added to my collection this month as well. I have quite a pile to choose from now.
It may not look like it, but it’s a bit more involved than just lining them up and slappin’ ’em on the wall. Sure, I could have done that, but instead, I’ve cut them out because I didn’t want a bunch of rows. Snooze. The challenge–if I can even call it that–is to overlap them in such a way that you can read everything. You’re rolling your eyes, aren’t you? Trust me. It’s harder than it sounds. Especially if you’re a perfectionist. And when it comes to something like this, I’m an expert perfectionist.
I love how it looks so far! Sometimes you need to be reminded of how awesome you are, to fight for your dreams, and to stay positive. That’s what this wall is all about. I can’t wait to see what it’ll look like when I’m finished.
While this may seem like something you’d find in a college dorm, I encourage you to devote one wall of your living space to motivation and positivity. It may not be a word wall necessarily, but it should have the same effect as one. Who wouldn’t want a space that pumps you up? Exactly.
